a while back, grace showed me this blog of awesome things. like literally just awesome things so i was inspired to create a list of my own.
1. when your fav song comes on the radio
it becomes the best day ever because it was completely unexpected. and it’s infinitely better when you get to listen from the beginning to the end; then you jam your heart out while people from other cars judge ferociously. but it doesn’t matter because IT’S YOUR FAVORITE SONG.
2. sitting down after standing all day (see also: 2a)
standing all day is serious business. you think it’s easy peasy because you’re not really doing anything but standing, but it’s a tough life. so the next time you sit your buttocks somewhere, thank the lord.
2a. making your head hit the pillow after a long day and sleeping your life away
it just feels good to take a permanent nap. or at least attempt to make it permanent.
3. drinking water after you’ve been dying of thirst
a parched throat sucks. even dying, if it’s fast enough, isn’t so bad compared to a parched throat because a quick death warrants quick suffering whereas a parched throat is a seemingly permanent endurance test of just how dry your throat can get before you want to slit it. but when that h2o hits the walls of your throat, it is a great day.
4. leaving an exam knowing you knew all the answers
theoretically, this seems like it would be awesome. i’ve just never personally experienced this before.
5. going to an amusement park on a random weekday slash not having to be in any lines
once, i went to king’s dominion on a random weekday and we rode one super awesome roller coaster like ten times within the span of 30 minutes. i felt like a king.
6. seeing an old friend and knowing that nothing’s changed
i’m so jealous of people who’ve been friends since they were two years old. or five or eight. you HAVE to stay friends with these people because you all share history and that’s something you’ll never get back. my oldest friend right now is a friend from middle school. that’s only kind of old but it’s sufficient for this example. we went to high school together too. and now we’re at college, 2gether 4ever. i mean, we’ve gone our separate ways in terms of friendships but we still play every once in a while and when we do, it’s like nothing’s changed and THAT is what i’m talking about. we still giggle over stupid things, make fun of stupid people, eat stupid food, and the like.
7. crossing off things on your to-do list
this only applies to you if you’re a list-maker, so if you’re not, get outta here. i’m a borderline obsessive list-maker only because i get a sense of great accomplishment when i cross something out. and maybe because i tend to forget things…
8. finally figuring out how to split a single check at some dining establishment
the bigger the group, the more rewarding slash hellish the experience. tip and tax are two of the biggest obstacles you face in the process of this task.
9. meeting someone who shares the same idiosyncratic habits/fears/behaviors as you
i get really excited when i meet someone else who sneezes in triplets. (i don’t always sneeze in triplets, but approximately 88% of the time i do.) or when i meet someone else who hates seeing a lot of holes congregated in one location, like in a ceiling or something - it’s totally unctuous. so when you meet someone who’s like you in this strange way, you have already formed an inevitable connection. it’s just… beautiful.
10. finishing something
